DC Officer Dies
On top of the local news this morning is the story of a 25-year-old DC cop who died yesterday after a training exercise. He was young, in fairly good shape, and highly regarded in the department. He apparently died of hyponatremia, a condition only recently recognized as a major risk by doctors, and all too unknown amongst athletes.
It is a totally unnecessary tragedy - had he drunk less water, or drunk gatorade instead, he'd likely not have died - and one that is not as uncommon as one might expect.
